Is it really safe to provide you with my Credit Card details over the Internet?

SSL encryption is a process by which software scrambles sensitive information while it is in transit over the Internet. This system is used worldwide by legitimate on-line shopping sites and is no different to using your credit card at a retail store, where your personal details are communicated to your financial institution over a phone line.
How can I tell if my browser is secure?
You will know that your browser is in 'secure mode' by the appearance of a security notice when you enter a secure page. In addition to this a secure icon will be displayed in the lower left hand corner of your browser window. For Netscape, this icon is a key, for Microsoft Internet Explorer it is a lock.
Secure web pages can also be identified by their URL as they begin with https:// while standard pages begin with http://
